The Bible ends where it begins… in a garden, with the tree of life. But not as it was known in our lives, with the shadow of death looming over us – this time – this forever, is in union with the light of life.

“And then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away… And I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, having been prepared as a bride beautifully adorned for her husband.” Revelations 21:1-2

No more division. No more curse. No more death. Just life… Union with the divine living word that provides indescribable healing – No more sadness. No more goodbyes. No more pain. Just life… Finally, heaven and earth are reunited, sharing the same space, and the abode of God and man are truly one, once again.

“He will dwell with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them and be their God. And He will wipe every tear from their eyes. And there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Revelations 21:3-4

Heaven and earth are now in union… “one flesh” reordered and all that we knew or comprehended is no more. We now have our incorruptible bodies; the earth is new and is without sin – God has made this renewed creation His home once again.

We hunger. We thirst. We desire what God has for us here, and at our “Homecoming.” We long to be in His presence, with praise and thanksgiving in our hearts… going deeper and deeper in relationship with Him – through His son, Jesus. Jesus died on the cross – the tree that spans the gulf between two trees, the tree of death and the tree of life.

Jesus lived with us, wrapped in a shell of mortality, experiencing everything we do – He too longed to be fully reunited with God… He hungered. He was thirsty. He sought after God. Jesus fulfilled all that his father had begun, setting right all of nature, humanity and the universe as He declared “it is finished” from the cross. [John 19:28-30]

As this echo’s throughout time and space, God too declares “it is finished” as he looks at His creation, in completion, knowing it is “good.”

“It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.” Revelation 21:6

Be encouraged! Jesus died on the tree between two trees, giving you an opportunity to be transformed, from death to life – from temporal to eternal – from mortality to immortality…
